Music for the film Jánošík

Jánošík is the first Slovak-American feature film produced by Tatra Film Corporation and directed by Jaroslav Siakel. The film premiered on 25 November 1921 in Prague, on 1 December 1921 in Chicago, and on 3 January 1922 at the Fatra House of Arts (Grand Bio Universum) in Žilina. In 1970, Ján Závodný brought almost the entire surviving film to Slovakia, which he had kept in his Chicago garage for 50 years, and donated it to the Slovak Film Institute in Bratislava. Its screening after a hundred years in Žilina with live music performed by Slovak Sinfonietta and the Bashavel ensemble under the baton of Žilina native Vladimír Martinka became a unique event. The experience of the film was enhanced by the new film music by the great composer and violinist Stanislav Paluch. This year, this exceptional project will travel abroad – to the international festival Euphonia in Warsaw and Prague.
